There is no secret that Vitesse Arnhem want to take Theo Janssen back to his hometown club this season. Negotiations have been ongoing with both clubs but there is a gap in the transfer fee. Reportedly Ajax want 1.7 million euros and Vitesse are offering 1.2 million euros.
However, with the departure of Vurnon Anita to Newcastle, Frank de Boer is keen to hold onto the experienced midfielder
But will that change with a swap deal, (involving 23-year-old left back Alexander Büttner), who was set to sign for newly promoted Southampton FC? The deal fell through due to an unspecifed ‘demand’ from an unnamed third-party.
Büttner comments, “Ajax was my favorite, partly because they do have the best youth development system.”
“My youth was Ajax, Ajax, Ajax. And my dear dad drove 1000s of kilometers for me. Without him, I would never have been a pro. But the trips weren’t that nice, as my dad was extremely critical. Nothing was ever good.”
Ajax Boss Frank de Boer still wants to strengthen with three new players; one player being a defender to play on the left, so maybe Büttner is the man De Boer is wishing for, after missing out on other players this summer.
