After playing the second half in Saturday’s evening win over RKC, the technical staff of Ajax told Babel he will start on Tuesday night.
Babel did say “I’m not sure whether I can play ninety minutes, I am fit, but still miss match practise.. I must say, after twenty minutes on the pitch on Saturday night my legs felt quite heavy.”
His experience of playing in Germany will be a key factor, and also Christian Poulsen who played for FC Schalke 04, if the Danish midfielder starts.
The speed of Babel could be key to Ajax who see that as being a way to exploit the Dortmund defence.
Babel says “I’ve been a few times to Dortmund for away matches. It’s a beautiful stadium, with a good playing surface. However I never won with Hoffenheim. Hopefully it will change going into the Champions League and we get a positive result.”
Captain Siem de Jong is expected to play as the central striker like he did in the last match.
He stated to the Telegraph that “We will need to create more energy and momentum and play our own game, people say we are the underdogs, but if we do this then we can get the three points, we go to Dortmund to win, that’s simple.”
