Ajax 3 PSV 1

Ajax beat PSV 3-1 on Saturday evening to get back in the Dutch title race, only being four imagepoints behind new leader’s FC Twente.

Ajax dominated PSV especially in the first half and created some massive chances through Viktor Fischer (twice), Toby Alderweireld (crossbar), Danny Hoesen and Derk Boerrigter. However, only Siem de Jong managed to find the net with a header at the back post in the 29th minute.

PSV created only one chance in the first half and also scored. Jeremain Lens from the left hand side cut inside the box and curled the ball past  Kenneth Vermeer in the 36th minute.

In the second half PSV created some minor possibilities and got a huge chance in the 71st minute. Lens had a one-on-one possibility against Vermeer, but his shot went wide.

It became a crucial miss, because in the following attack Ajax scored. A powerful run by Fischer who managed to find Danny Hoesen in the box to  tapped the ball into the net from six yards to send the home fans wild.

Viktor Fischer made it 3-1 in the 87th minute when he capitalised on an error from the PSV defence and rounded the goalkeeper to place the ball into an empty net, and celebrate in front of the Ajax fans.

After the match Frank de Boer was happy with the performance, “We put PSV under alot of pressure and dominated the match, this was a excellent performance”.

Next for Ajax is a trip to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
