Champions Ajax kicked off the new Eredivisie season in style as they beat Roda JC 3-0 in the Dutch capital.
Although very early days, this was as strong a signal as Frank de Boer’s men could have sent out that they will not be relinquishing their title easily.
It took just eight minutes of the fresh campaign for them to take the lead, with Holland defender Ricardo Van Rhijn doing the deed.
Siem De Jong, who remains with the 32-time champions despite continuing to court overseas interest, added a second on the half-hour to put the game to bed.
And, although the pace slowed a little after that, a third goal arrived seven minutes from time when Viktor Fischer opened his account for the season.
Siem De Jong scored in extra time to earn Ajax the first piece of silverware of the new Dutch season as they came from two goals down to edge out AZ Alkmaar 3-2 in the Johan Cruyff Schaal.
The KNVB Beker holders looked to be on course for victory when Johann Berg Gudmundsson gave them a 52nd minute lead which was doubled by Aron Johansson in the 68th minute.
But an own goal from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw a minute later gave Ajax a route back into the match and the Eredivisie champions made the most of it by adding an equaliser from Kolbeinn Sigthorsson six minutes later.
Ajax then completed their comeback 13 minutes into extra time thanks to De Jong’s header to secure the Super Cup for the eighth time in their history.
Reports are circulating that Liverpool have started with a 21 million euros bid for Christian Eriksen. Liverpool have always been mentioned about being interested in the Ajax star. Interest from AC Milan is known but the Italian club need to sell before they can buy. Coach Frank de Boer was hoping to keep the Danish star for the new season, and has said it’s up to the Dane where he goes next.
Christian Eriksen has rejected a move to the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, the Ajax midfielder’s agent has confirmed.
Leverkusen were keen to recruit the Denmark midfielder, widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe, but saw their advances rebuffed.
The Bundesliga side were reportedly willing to offer Eriksen a lucrative contract but the 21-year-old is adamant he will only leave the Amsterdam ArenA for a club at which his sporting ambitions can be met.
His agent Martin Schoots told Voetbal International: “Christian will only leave Ajax on sporting grounds, that’s his main criteria.”
Zenit St Petersburg have also tried without success to lure Eriksen to Russia, while Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested.
