Arsenal enquire about Alderweireld

Arsenal have enquired about Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld, imageaccording to reports.

The Gunners are currently short of options at the back, and are seemingly ready to push ahead with a bid for the 24-year-old Belgian.

Dutch sources claim the Gunners have been in contact with Ajax over the weekend to scope out the possibility of striking a deal after the Amsterdam outfit turned down a bid from Atletico Madrid.

Former Arsenal winger and current director of football at Ajax, Marc Overmars, said: ‘We have rejected the offer from Atletico Madrid for Toby Alderweireld.

‘We were contacted this weekend but it was not considered sufficient for a player of the national team of Belgium.’

Alderweireld has just one year remaining on his current contract, and it’s believed Ajax are looking for in excess of £6.5million for his services.

When asked about Arsenal’s interest in the defender, Overmars said: ‘They would need to pay the asking price, if we were to let one of our players go.’

Crystal Palace interested in Eyong Enoh

Ajax midfielder Eyong Enoh claims Crystal Palace are chasing his imagesignature, but Olympiakos currently lead the chase.

No agreement has been reached, though, and Enoh is now considering other offers.

Premier League new boys Palace remain in the market for fresh faces, with Ian Holloway eager to bring in top level experience.

He could, however, be set to miss out on another target, in a frustrating summer for the Eagles boss, with Enoh admitting that the UEFA Champions League football on offer at Olympiakos would make the Greek outfit his preferred choice.

The 27-year-old told De Telegraaf: “It’s a good option. Olympiakos will participate in the Champions League and are a big club in Greece. My agent is in talks with them.

“Crystal Palace have also made contact. I am honoured by their interest, but first I will talk with Olympiakos.”

Eriksen no transfer talks with clubs

Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen has told BT.dk that Tottenham are an image‘interesting’ club, but insists he is holding no transfer talks at present.

The Denmark international was among those expected to be on the move this summer, with his future having generated plenty of speculation through a number of transfer windows.

Eriksen was reluctant to contemplate a switch in the past, but has opened the door to potential suitors as he looks to take on a new challenge.

Rumours of interest from Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have come and gone, with clubs in Russia the only ones to have formal offers on the table at present.

Eriksen, at the age of 21, has no desire to discuss such a move and will hold out for a top side to come calling – with Tottenham among those reported to be mulling over an approach.

He told BT.dk: “Tottenham are a great club. I know this from talking to Jan Vertonghen. They are a good club who are very interesting, but there has been no contact.

“We’ll find out in two weeks (what will happen). There are, to my knowledge, no negotiations right now, either with a new club or Ajax.

“My stance is the same. I will look at interesting offers and if nothing materialises then I will stay with Ajax.

“There are Russian clubs that have called and made bids for me. I did not take much time to refuse.

“I would like to join one of the five major leagues. I have the view that I do not want to go to Russia at my age. I do not look at the money.”

Fulham want to resign Eyong Enoh

Fulham have held talks with Ajax about re-signing Eyong Enoh, but haveimage yet to agree a deal.

Enoh joined Fulham in January and spent the latter part of the campaign on loan at Craven Cottage.

The 27-year-old featured nine times and impressed in midfield for Martin Jol, who is keen for him to return.

However, Jol is not willing to match Ajax’s price tag – believed to be near £3million.

Enoh’s agent Stephan Brandli confirmed to Sky Sports that talks were ongoing between the two clubs.

“As I understand there have been talks between the two clubs, however, Martin Jol, who knows Ajax very well, is not willing to pay the current price,” Brandli said.

“Eyong enjoyed his time at Fulham and did well, and of course he would love to go back.

“Ajax coach Ronald de Boer has gone public to say that Enoh can leave, and he does not want to sit on the bench at Ajax so he is hoping that something can happen.”

Brandli did admit that there was interest from elsewhere in England, and added: “We have heard of a few more teams in the UK are interested.”

He told De Telegraaf: “I now understand that they have made Ajax an offer for me.

“Only when the clubs are granted permission (to talk to me) will I think.
